What is Advent?
In the ancient world, various peoples lit fires to mark the shortening season of the light in to winter’s season of darkness and to pray for the return of the light. The church created the Advent wreath as a method of outreach to show how Jesus is the eternal Light of God. To us, these candles are signs of the growing light of Christ who is coming again in all God’s radiant fullness into the darkness of our world. Until the dawning of Jesus return, we watch and wait in the Holy Spirit for Christ’s coming. We light candles of hope, peace, joy, and love in the weeks leading to Christmas time. As a church on Christmas Eve we light the Christ candle. Christmas Eve service info coming soon.
Advent Season at Grace
We want to invite you to join us in celebrating the birth of Jesus. Starting November 27th until Christmas time we will be lighting the advent candle and reading various passages and prayers as part of our worship service at 10:30 on Sunday mornings. Christmas Morning service will be at 10:30. There will be no Sunday morning classes on Christmas Day. If you want to read our service guide which can be used as your own adult family guide then see our “Grace EPC 2016 Advent Guide.”
We will celebrating Advent over the next several weeks at Grace and are inviting families to stay together longer in the worship service to be part of the Advent season. Children 0-5 will be dismissed to their classes after corporate worship, lighting the advent calendar, the children’s message and before the adult sermon.
